What makes a house your home? Is it the things you pack in or the people you share it with? Is it the sense of escapism you feel when you return home after a long day or the chance to entertain and fill your rooms with laughter?

For most people moving in to a new property, it’s an opportunity for a fresh start. It may also be daunting to leave behind an old house filled with memories, but don’t let that stop you enjoying making new ones! Often the process of creating a new home is what actually makes you fall in love with it. Here are a few things which might help you along the way...

Make your mark

If you buy a Hartford Home off-plan, you may begin making your house your own before getting the keys. Depending on the stage of construction, we can offer various options for flooring and paint finishes, as well as possible specification upgrades. If your home is complete and ready to move in to, it could be moving in large items of furniture or simply small trinkets and pictures that makes you feel like you belong. Whether you like making a big statement or an understatement, don’t forget to make it your own!

Don’t rush it

As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day. To truly feel at home, it may take a while to get everything in just the right place. Trust that it will all come together in time and don’t rush it: take a room at a time and make goals. Don’t let the stress of getting everything done today get to you and stop you enjoying the process.

Love every room

Don’t just focus on the most important rooms – don’t neglect the downstairs loo or even the cupboard under the stairs! You may want to start big and make the most prominent rooms feel homely, but feeling relaxed in the sanctuary of your own bathroom could make all the difference.

Love your time there

It may sound like an obvious one, but don’t forget to spend time there! How often do you actually spend time in your home appreciating it? The more time you actually spend in your house, the more you will grow to love it!

Share the love

Don’t just fill your home with the things you like – share it with the people you love! Whether you prefer entertaining a large crowd or a select few, sharing time with others in your home might just make you appreciate it even more. And, to truly make your house a home, it is the memories you make within those walls that elevate it above bricks and mortar.
